Backyard goodies

Yesterday I did not blog. I was busy. Laundry and boaty were calling to me! We spent the better part of the day out fishing on the boat! Caught a flounder! Only one, unfortunately, but tonight we're going to have fish tacos! Yumm!

Then, yesterday evening we went over to my husband's Dad's to have a cookout with the family. We had a lovely time and had many fabulous in-season vegetables including eggplant, corn, beets, a grilled onion and tomato with basil. There really is nothing like fresh, fresh food, is there? I love the summer!

In homefront news, my new mini-aloe officially has a new home now on the table in the back yard:It's very happy there.

All of the herbs are going nutso. They are getting enormous from the heat and sun and regular watering!I swear that chive plant has quadrupled in size since the spring!

The daphne bushes I put in the back yard have had different fates. One died, unfortunately, but this one is thriving:There is one area in the back that is not faring well. I'm not sure what's going on there, but the only thing that survives there is a hosta, so I may end up just putting a few hostas in that spot. I lost pulmonaria, a daphne, a peony and a bleeding heart in that spot. Gardens can be so mysterious sometimes!

The European ginger is doing fabulously in another spot in the garden! I have been told they are very slow to grow and can be quite tricky, so I feel lucky that this one is really quite happy and is growing steadily:I love those pretty, shiny leaves.

And this is so great - lamium that survived the winter in the flower boxes! I saw little green leaves when I went to switch out the flower boxes this spring, so I transplanted these sort of scraggly, sad lamiums here in the back yard! They are absolutely beautiful! They bloom constantly and are VERY happy in this spot between the daphne and huge bleeding heart bush!

Ok...That's all for today! I have a very insistent little girl standing beneath my chair wagging her rear-end off! Time for a wak!
