Slackaaahhh!

Sorry I've been a slacker. Let me explain the absence of new posts:

First, hope you had a happy holiday weekend! We sort of burned the candle at both ends, so I have been lax in blogging. We spent nearly the entire day on the boat on Friday and Saturday. Took most of the day off Sunday because it was SO DARN HOT, and then spent the afternoon and evening on the boat again. This is not our boat in this photo, but this is exactly what she looks like:
Boaty is a 32 foot Island Gypsy trawler. Slow and steady. We fish for flounder and codfish on the boat a lot and have already had some delicious flounder dinners this year!

Monday, we were both VERY tired, so we didn't do too much except go see the silly new Adam Sandler moving, "Grown Ups!" It was really pretty funny and I giggled and laughed until I cried in some places! It was most entertaining!

Yesterday, you ask? It was so unbearably hot and humid that I did a grand total of about 1.5 hours of gardening and was completely and utterly SPENT. I just read in the paper that it officially got up to 101 in the SHADE yesterday. Utterly revolting, if you ask me!

Right now it's 85 outside and it feels like absolutely NOTHING! It's so nice out! I have two maintenance jobs I have to do today, so I'm hoping it doesn't get too terrible out there. 101 degrees was just nasty.

I've also had to do a lot of cleaning and preparation for our upcoming trip to MIchigan. We're leaving tomorrow (Thursday) for brilliant Saginaw, Mi. Saginaw is a very working-class and very depressed area of Michigan right now. It's really sort of a sad place. I was born there and have relatives there, but spent most of my early life in Traverse City, which is right on Lake Michigan; a lovely city with beaches and tourism and skiing in the winter.

Annnnyway, we are heading to Michigan for a memorial service for my beloved grandparents who passed away earlier this year. They died within 6 weeks of each other. A very sad time for our small family.

So, the moral of my story is that I have NO time for blogginess today and I will be gone until Saturday. I'll try to get back on track after we get back. Needless to say, the plants are THIRSTY! So, my spare time has been spent watering everyone at least once per day. It became such an issue, that I had to break down and get sprinklers for the back yard! In the 10 years we've lived here, I've never had to do such a thing!

It's sort of an ingenious little system! There are three little sprinklers attached by 15 foot-long hoses, so you can water basically my entire back yard with one turn of the nozzle! Here's one of the cute little sprinkler guys:LOVE it! They hydrangeas are MUCH happier now and my other poor, little thirsty perennials are now bouncing back. They were all gasping for their last breath on Sunday. So I made the pilgrimage to Home Depot...

And, just so you know, if you were thinking about coming over while we're away to steal my new sprinklers? Don't. Our dog sitters will be here while we're gone. I know you're terribly disappointed.

Ok...Happy rest of the week to you!

Hasta la vista! Oh. Wait. We're heading to Saginaw, not Spain. Bummer!
