Well, kids...It's a big, big day over here at Life with Flowers. Not only do the New England Patriots play the Jets (on the way to the Superbowl, naturally), but immediately after the game, THE GOLDEN GLOBES are on!! This will require a major shift in brain function from the first to the second event, but I'm UP for it!! The cobwebs created by the yoga-torture my husband subjected me to on Thursday evening have all but cleared out and I'm READY TO GO!!!!
First prediction - the score of the game. While I am no football expert, I certainly understand the game quite well and really do enjoy it. I absolutely predict that the Pats will win over the Jets - it won't be the big blowout we had last time - but there will be a respectable score and the Pats will be victorious. I'm thinking something like 38-28 Pats. And Rex Ryan can go merrily off and lick his wife's feet for all I care. What a freak!! (Look this up if you don't know what I'm talking about - just google "Rex Ryan foot" and you will see! Blech!)
Second, lots of Golden Globe predictions. My husband and I have seen many of the movies and TV shows up for GG awards, I'm happy to say! Most years, we are dismally behind on watching new movies, so I feel a bit more comfortable in my very amateur predictions here today! And here we go:
Best Motion Picture - Drama
While we loved The Fighter, thought The Social Network was okay and HATED Inception, the most moving and well-done movie we've seen in a loooonnnnng time was The King's Speech. From beginning to end, Colin Farrell was superb. Absolutely astounding. I really, really want The King's Speech to win.
Best Actress, Motion Picture - Drama
Not sure about this. We didn't see any of these movies. So I will leave this one to the experts!
Best Actor, Motion Picture - Drama
Colin Firth. Please let it be Colin Firth. His portrayal of a stuttering, frustrated heir to the throne was beyond incredible. You felt his frustration with every fiber of your being. His final speech was a triumph and it was impossible not to cheer at the end!
Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical
Only saw one of these - The Kids are All Right - and I do not think that it was award-worthy. Will leave the rest to the experts again!
Best Actress, Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical
Again, saw The Kids are All Right and Easy A - and frankly, am again, surprised that either of these was nominated! Didn't see The Tourist or Love & Other Drugs, so will also leave this one blank...
Best Actor, Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical
Again, up to the experts. However, must say? I adore Kevin Spacey so I will be secretly voting for him. I have a feeling, however, that Johnny Depp will win since he's nominated twice for Alice in Wonderland and The Tourist.
Best Animated Feature Film
Saw two of these and am voting heartily for How to Train Your Dragon. A completely charming tale of forgiveness and understanding!
Best Supporting Actress, Motion Picture
Melissa Leo in The Fighter. The most convincing portrayal of a fighter's "ma" from Lowell MA. Close 2nd was Amy Adams in The Fighter. She really did a fantastic job.
Best Supporting Actor, Motion Picture
Christian Bale. I have mentioned this a number of times here on this bloggy. I'm not a huge fan of Bale's. His personal life is always somewhat of a shambles, but this role he played was so far and above the others in this category - he has to win.
Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series, Mini-Series, or Made-for-TV movie
Julia Stiles, Dexter (she is the favorite; this show makes my hair stand on end, it's so well done!)
Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series, Mini-Series, or Made-for-TV movie
Chris Noth, The Good Wife (LOVED him as Big and STILL love him even though he's a low-down dirty cheater!!)
2nd choice - Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family (The entire show is brilliant and he is a bright star on it!)
Best Actress, TV - Musical or Comedy
SOOOO many good options here. My gut is to go with Laura Linney, The Big C. Close 2nds are Toni Collette, United States of Tara and Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie. I will barf if Lea Michele from Glee wins. Glee is stupid. REALLY stupid!
Best Actor, TV - Musical or Comedy
I'm thinking they will give it to Steve Carell this year since it's his last season on The Office. I love the show - love the entire cast. Neat tidbit - Rainn Wilson (who plays hilarious Dwight Schrute in The Office), is the son of my favorite yoga teacher!!
If Carell doesn't win, I'd love to see Thomas Jane win - he's brilliant in Hung.
Best Actress, TV - Drama
Tie in my head between Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) and Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men). I can't decide which deserves it more. Moss has really come on in Mad Men as a strong lead character, while Margulies has been consistently been good in her character on The Good Wife.
Best Actor, TV - Drama
Jon Hamm (Mad Men). He's just plain excellent. The series is just plain excellent!
Best TV Series - Musical or Comedy
I'm rooting for The Big C. Laura Linney and Oliver Platt are heartbreakingly wonderful. The neighbor across the street, played by Phyllis Sommerville was so incredible. It's a shame she had to die this past season. Anyway, if you have not watched this series, do yourself a huge favor and rent it.
Close 2nds are Modern Family and Nurse Jackie. My husband and I love both of these shows, as well.
Best TV Series - Drama
Mad Men. While we LOVE Dexter and The Good Wife, the acting and the interaction among the characters is hard to deny in Mad Men. It's all-around amazing.
There are other categories, but these are the ones that I know (or sort of do!), so that's it!
So, that's the big prediction post for today. We will see what ensues tonight...And, of course, we will have a run-down of the dresses and suits from the red carpet. That's really the best part, isn't it?
If you are into fashion and cattiness, then you may want to visit a very entertaining website I discovered a couple of weeks ago. It's called "Tom & Lorenzo - Fabulous & Opinionated" and can be found HERE. They review fashion houses, what the fabulous people are wearing, ad campaigns, sylists and their effectiveness. It's complete fluff and it's WONDERFUL!
Ok. That's all for today, kids. Class dismissed.
Will see you back here manana to review my predictions and the best and worst-dressed lists!
Ciao!

I'm exhausted reading your predictions for the Golden Globes! (And still soar from your yoga experience...but it does make me want to start yoga-ing—nothing like that feeling of all-over pain!) I must add, however, that I'm a bit upset about your Patsy info—bad juju making statements of wins... but gosh, they better make it happen! And for your afternoon-evening viewing, my I suggest a nap, a good hearty lunch, and comfy jim jams! Have a blast! xoxo, p
ReplyDeleteDear Pen,
ReplyDeleteI must disagree about the bad ju-ju making predictions of a win for the Pats! All the experts agree, so let's cross fingers! xoxoo
Dearest Lisa,
ReplyDeleteAt the risk of being my father with a terrible need to be right... BAD JUJU through and through! All you people jinxed us! It's all your fault! D'ooooh, they had a bad night and it's just a tragedy that it was NY! I still love you!
XOXOXO!
I KNOW!!! It was a terrible game. Somehow, my dumb prediction on my little bloggy over here doesn't seem responsible!! The Pats simply did not show up! Such a disappointment!
ReplyDeleteI saw that foot licker thing. Who the freak has a foot fetish? That's just gross.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm so mad at myself, I went off for the evening and forgot to tape the GG's. I heard they were fabulous with all of Ricky Gervais's cringeworthy comments. So mad I missed the fun.
